[Arduino Series 12] Arduino USB Midi box making secrets revealed

Many people know that Carlos likes to combine STEM and music to make instruments I often teach my students to make acoustic instruments Such as Kalimba, Recorder, Ukulele, etc. 00:28 - The invention and production of musical instruments last for a long time in human history New musical instruments keep emerging Computers will play a very important role in music in the future Today Carlos will use the Arduino you are most familiar with Start with a DIY Midi box Reveal the veil of computer music Let’s get started Just a reminder, if you like the channel of Organist Carlos Please click subscribe in the lower right corner If you want to be notified of new videos as soon as possible Please click the bell You are also welcome to add likes and comments In fact, many new instruments are just array of buttons Like the launchpad in my hand Is an 8X8 button array With the program Ableton Live Specially let DJ improvise live music Just take a moment to put different music and sound effects files Into these 64 buttons I can transform into DJ Carlos 8X8 64 buttons, each button represents a midi message Every time I talk to friends major in science and engineering about music They all think I’ve got my head in the clouds Gradually I learned to use a scientific method Talking to them about music makes it easier for them to understand I now open a music sequencer Launchpad is selected as the input device Actually, a sequencer is used to output data Following the sequence Now I press every button on the input device to make a sound It’s the same as when I press keys on a computer keyboard to output letters I now start the step record function It can record my keystrokes I keep pressing all 64 keys You will see some notes appear on the staff If you can’t read the staff I turn to piano roll view so that you can understand Just like looking at a chart, the X axis is time and the Y axis is pitch What we call midi messages Simply put every note into a number For example, the so-called middle C in music is represented by 60 Since midi is just numbers Then we can use our handy Arduino to connect buttons Let it output midi numbers to a computer or other musical instruments Then we can DIY electronic musical instruments Carlos was exposed to midi format more than 30 years ago And wrote a book And about ten years ago, I even combine the knowledge of midi with hardware and programming to make my own musical instruments At that time only this small Arduino could be bought I use the traditional midi to connect computer After many years, I switched to the commonly used UNO I also follow the trend to change the computer connection to usb midi But to program the arduino into a usb midi instrument You must select the arduino with ICSP2 connection in the upper left corner Many people don’t know the existence of this socket The original arduino has two In-Circuit Serial Programming plug To make it simple, each arduino has two Atmel chips We usually use one of them in programming The other one stores the bootloader It is the firmware of arduino Only with bootloader can programming via usb But if you want to turn the arduino into a midi instrument Bootloader is useless Instead, another firmware needs to be written in So that it can input and output midi messages The actual method will be detailed later Since we plan to make a midi input device with reference to launchpad At least a box must be printed The box must be able to install an arduino I prepared the box and arduino Due to the need to connect many buttons I prepared a self-made shield These pins are used to solder on the shield as leads Then put the arduino into the box Try to insert the shield to check its position Then I think about how to program UNO has only 13 digital inputs Even if the 6 analog inputs are converted to digital, there are only 19 If you make an electronic musical instrument with only 19 notes, definitely not enough!

How to Make Your Own Custom Sculpting Tools Easy DIY Tutorial

welcome to the shop steve here at sks props and in today’s video i’m going to show you how i made some custom sculpting tools out of some easy to find items now most of you know me for my foam smithing abilities but most of the companies that i work for harm me to hand sculpt and resin cast props for them and even though i have an entire tub full of tools most of my sculpting friends will agree you can never have enough specifically ones that will give you unique textures now this is the kind of project that i’ve wanted to do for a while but just haven’t found the time until recently i had an nda build come along where i needed unique textures for my clay and i figured this is the opportune time to do it and if i’m gonna make these i might as well film the journey so i can show you all how i did it so let’s go ahead and get started for the ends of my custom sculpting tools i’m going to be using some wire some scroll saw blades and a guitar string the main body of the tools is going to be made out of some brass tubing that i had picked up online now these tubes are too long and need to be cut in half so i marked the measurement with a sharpie now you of course could use a hacksaw to cut this in half but i’ve got a cobalt pipe cutter that worked great this tool works by tightening the blade against the pipe spinning the pipe tightening spinning tightening spinning until it cuts all the way through now this smaller tube is a 5 32nd will be perfect for the scroll saw blades and the guitar string this larger tube i’m going to use after i combine some wires but it’s the same process of scoring the pipe turning it scoring the pipe turning it until it cuts through now at this point i’m going to debur the ends and get rid of any glue residue before i proceed now the first tool end i’m going to make will be a loop made out of some spiraled steel wire i start off by cutting the wire to length and then folding it in half using some pliers to get it as small as possible i then insert this wire into my drill chuck until it’s secure then by grabbing the other end with some pliers and keeping it stationary i spin the drill this will give it a uniform spiral down the length of the wire this piece can then be formed to shape the excess wire can be cut away and it’s inserted into the brass tube to check for fit i’m going to repeat this same process again for the sculpting tool at the other end so i bend my wire in half i use my drill and i get this uniform spiral instead of having a loop this time i’d like it to have a hard edge so once the wire had been complete i used my pliers to make a hard angle at the top this is also inserted into the brass tube and now i can affix both of these into place now i could just crimp the brass tube and leave it at that but i want to make sure that these do not move at all so i’m going to be using some two part epoxy sculpt this compound is mixed thoroughly and then pressed onto the wires and used to fill the gaps any excess can be pulled away before i use some pliers to squeeze the ends shut then i use some crimping pliers to press the brass as hard as i can against the wire this is to ensure even if i sculpt against some really hard monster clay it’s not going to come out the crimping pliers left a few tool marks so i use my file to smooth everything out just so it looks nice and that’s one custom sculpting tool done for my next tool i’m going to be using a guitar string which i hear works great for smoothing out the clay after using a rake some wire snips are used to cut the guitar string and then i use some needle nose pliers to bend the wire into the shape i like this was actually a lot easier than i thought it was going to be and it retained the shape really well this sculpting head was inserted into the smaller brass tube along with some epoxy sculpt after the tube had been filled i used the pliers once again to squeeze them down and then used the crimping pliers to make sure that this wire didn’t move at all for the other end of this tool i’m going to be using a 15 tpi scroll saw blade now scroll saw blades are pretty brittle so i need to anneal the metal with a blow torch before i can bend it after the metal has been allowed to cool i use the snips to cut off the posts on the ends and use the pliers to start to manipulate the blade now if you don’t heat the blade and you try to just bend it like this the blade will snap now that i have the shape that i want i cut off any of the additional scroll saw blade that i don’t need and insert that into the other end of the brass tube epoxy sculpt is forced down into the tube right alongside the blade and then i can use the crimping pliers once again to make sure that this doesn’t ever come out for the next custom tool head i want to create a small detail loop so i’m going to use more of that guitar string now using the pliers i create the small loop but i don’t want to crimp it too much because i don’t want an angle at the top here i want it to remain round more epoxy sculpt is placed into the tube with the wire and then it can be crimped shut this end should work great to smooth out some hard to reach areas now to go along with the small loop tool that i created i’d like for this other end to have a flat edge i’m once again using the guitar string and my pliers to bend it to the shape that i want now when bending this wire i’d recommend to over bend it to the shape that you’d want because the wire will bounce back a little bit this new tool shape will be placed into the other end of the brass pipe and then again using epoxy sculpt in my pliers i will crimp the brass tube shut now what’s great about these is they’re accustomed to what i want so every tube has a tool at the other end that it complements the sculpting process for example if there’s a rake on one end it’ll have a loop on the other end to help smooth it out so here’s a quick demo of the tools working on some cooled monster clay and how they would work together i would start off by refining with a spiraled wire then i’d move on to a rake which should take it down to more of a level surface and then i use a loop guitar string as a final pass now this will make the surface pretty smooth but you could always take it a little bit further by using some solvents or i like to use my heat gun now this process heats up just the surface of the monster clay which can destroy some of your details so you want to use it sparingly i can then go back with a loop tool one more time brush away the little bits and this surface is very smooth at this point so you all can see the basic steps that i took to put together my own simple custom sculpting tools now hopefully you learned something from this video and if you decide to make your own be sure to tag me on twitter and instagram because i want to see your creation maybe it’s another tool that i need to add to my tub now hopefully you enjoyed this video if you did give it a thumbs up share with your friends and family and until next time thanks for stopping by you.

Mendeley as a referencing tool for beginners

good evening everybody ladies and gentlemen i am pleased to join you in another video presentation which it is about referencing we write reference for our article or more precisely we cite references in our research article how we can do that there are several ways several software several apps the most obvious one is mandalay which we are focused about it today let us start our journey what is the mandalay mandalay island software that software is managed by several famous universities worldwide you can if you want to search for it you can just write down it in google mandalay this is the logo this red color mainly use it for referencing but it has other usages also we passed by it later you just click over it you just click over it you can download mandalay in this sector what is the advantage the advantage is because if you have the desktop app of for the mandalay you can do more features are available that it is difficult with the online version for example if you out of wi-fi you cannot use the online version of the mandalay but if you install the app you can still go ahead with the several actions unfortunately i cannot do that because i already installed mandalay once you click click over save file after that you go to several steps you continue until then then you can download and install it in your laptop another one you need create an account click over create an account unfortunately i cannot do it also because i already have several account of mandalay in case you don’t have new user you just click over it write your full name organization university research institution you are working with your occupation student lecturer researcher and so on i mean fill up the personal information then i when you finish you can activate your email it’s very existed and free of charge totally free of charge so now we consider let us consider that you already installed your mandalay in your laptop and you create an account so let us go to the app this is the mandalay app i already have it in case when you start the new installation you have only this folder all document recently added until you reach my publication however because i am a old user of mandalay i created several extra folders for more categorization based on the people that i helped them or research topic i work it or paper i published it depend on that you sir the more important features in mandalay are adding adding file you find a paper online download it for example this paper after downloading you follow this tape add file from here then you specify the folder click over it open that paper already downloaded we can find the name of the paper name of author name of journal year for publication volume issue page number abstract all information you can find there and also journal time type for example here we have journal research articles or we have book chapter case computer program conference proceeding enscopedia or anything you can categorize for example you open the folder you send this particular paper in a specified for example copy and you send it to a folder so we can categorize our library this window in front of you is called my library this is my library so now if you want to search if you have too many you can search for particulate paper here for example you write strength any paper title or insight have a relation with the strength it will appear for you it’s still too much because i have too many so use another keyword tensile it reduced so right for example brittle still reduces by this way you can control it and if you want more features this green color means that you actively downloaded it this color means when you click over it you still need to make sure that this paper is downloaded or not in case you downloaded when you click over it you can read the paper read the whole information if there is any mistake for example if there is a mistake for example there is space between them you can just correct it very easily so now we go to important topic i already installed in microsoft word but in case if you don’t install it it is written install ms word plugin you just click over it it will be installed in your microsoft word you just click over it follow the steps finally it will be installed in your microsoft word we will show you later another important thing is citation style if you already work with a style like me you will have listed here if no you go to more style in more style you go to get more style in that one when you want to get more style in that case you just search for the name of the journal for example you want a search for material so all journal have material in their title you will get it so you should be more specific you should be more specific in that case if you know the name of the journal just write it if no you can find many keywords for example this one install after installation you will find the a journal listing here for example here this is let us say this is the journal you just click over you stay this style this will appear this one will appear where in the citation style in the view tab and after that when we go to the main paper here in the reference we can find the mandala installed and journal listing exactly the same journal listing in the mandala if you want to get more style click over it it will automatically direct you to the mandalay app on laptop then you can control it over there so now let’s say you want to add reference here anywhere let’s say here you click over here then you go to reference then insert citation you have two options if you know all information about it you can right here or easier you click over go to mandalay in go to mandalay you have this option my library when you click over it it will direct you to the where to the mandalay app when you click over mandalay app in that case in that case it will direct you to the mandalay app and then let’s say this is the journal you want to click over it let us consider you just click on the site once you do it it will automatically direct you as we can see it will automatically direct you to the review paper here so give you the reference number 16 because we already have 15 reference in the introduction section so it give you a reference number 16 so which one do you use let us say you use ieee you change it for example to the this journal you want to submit to that one journal 4 journal of rare earth just click over it and wait see what is happening so we see uh we see is changed we had the reference number between two brackets now we have this kind of reference number it’s totally changed so now let us learn how to make a bibliography usually bibliography we do it in the reference we do it in the repair we have all these references i will delete it i will delete it first we start again let us see how we can make it in that case let us consider we don’t have anything after you finish all the references you just click over insert bibliography just click only don’t do anything else and wait for few seconds in my case it takes some time because i have too many references otherwise it is very quick and straightforward so all references will be listed here name of author name or title of the paper journal name year of publication a volume page number doi all are for all paper references with the same style appear here in case if you want to change you choose another journal which journal do you want to submit you just choose it here if not available here you just click over more style go back mentally and find it in the mendeley app and it’s a very friendly has a very good feature very easy and user friendly very flexible it has a good feature that totally avoid mistake or to be more precise it has only a few mistakes like here for example this chemical formula we cannot correct in mandalay so we can just correct it manually here this is titanium oxide chromium oxide we can just correct it here in case if we have serious mistake here other than this simple chemical formula let us find any a journal name that it has a mistake let us say we have the journal like that automatically came to you in that case so you can no need to go to correct in the word file just correct it here when you correct it leave it go back to the word file in that case in that case when you finish all of them go to reference you just click over refresh once you click over refresh it will automatically apply all corrections here automatically without any problem so this is the main features of mandalay and how we use mandalay how how mentally will be beneficial for us thank you very much for your listening your time and i will be very thankful for you if you have your time for feedback or question in my youtube channel thank you very much thank you.
