  • [Mike] I research landslides on asteroids. A day in the life for me can be anything from making a landslide in a sandbox all the way through to working on set helping writers with science in movies. When we send robots to go explore asteroids and comets, we want to make sure they’re safe where they land. Part of that is looking at how do rocks fall down? How does ice fall down? How do things tumble and fall, just like they would on Earth, but in less gravity and with no air. I could never have guessed the career path that I’m on.

00:38 - What I could understand is that I liked solving problems. And I wanted to make things better. Science is the ability to create the future that we want, and the ability to understand how to solve problems. My name is Mika McKinnon. I am a disaster researcher in Vancouver, British Columbia.
