These two identical machines are the Chadwick Mini-Calculator and the Neckerman Haushaltkalkulator. I have here the box for the Chadwick Mini-Calculator. It says it adds and subtracts up to 99,999.99. And ideal for tax work, budgets, home, office and school. It has a copyright year of 1969 and was made in Japan.
00:42 - It was in production only for a few years because as soon as the cheap electronic calculators were available, these machines were obsolete. They’re very cheap and simple calculators. On the bottom it says “Made in Japan”. They were also sold under the name Solo Handy Calculator and if you look carefully the rubber feet have the name Solo on them, so it’s likely that the Japanese company that made them sold them under that brand and after that they were then rebranded as Neckermann or Chadwick. They’re very easy to use. You just put your finger next to the digit you want to enter. For example if I want to enter six I put my finger on the six and move it down to the bottom.
01:50 - This one already has a one there, but i can add seven to make it eight. It carries automatically. If i add six to this, the next digit increases automatically. It does not have a stored energy mechanism so when you move your finger it can be quite difficult to do it accurately when there’s a carry happening To subtract you simply move the dials the other way. You can use the red digits so if i subtract 3 from this, I have to put my finger next to the three and move upwards to the end To clear the register you push this lever. And that’s all there is to it. A very simple machine. So that was the Neckermann Haushaltkalkulator and the Chadwick Mini-Calculator. Thank you for watching! .
