(upbeat music) - Hey, I’m Claire, and I’m part of the Netsafe Youth Action Squad. - Hey, I’m a part of the Netsafe Youth Action Squad. - Hey, I’m a part of the Netsafe Youth Action Squad. - As a YAS member, I get to be a part of being the voice for the online safety of our youth. - I get to help young people have a voice about what happens online.

00:29 - - I get to meet lots of cool new people from other schools I never would have got the opportunity to meet. - I get to encourage and influence teens just like me to get involved in learning about online safety. - I get to think about how I can help people at my school utilise their devices in a way that optimises their learning and keeps them safe. - I like to catch up with family and friends online and waste time on YouTube. - I like to stay positive online. - I like to communicate with my friends and family online.

01:03 - - I enjoy socialising online cause it helps me interact with my friends and family and lets me know what’s going on around the world. - Online I like to research about anything and everything. - I also like to learn cool new things that I wouldn’t get the opportunity to learn at a regular day at school. - I like to play games, talk to friends, and read online. - The internet is a place where I can find out what I want to study. - The internet is a place that I can visit and explore. - I can share my adventures and be able to communicate with friends and family. - The internet is a place where I can go to Google the answers to questions I don’t know. - The internet is a place where I can safety share my ideas and safely connect with other youth online. - I can connect with my friends and family from overseas.

01:48 - - The internet is a place where I can learn from my mistakes. - [Narrator] As young people, we get a lot of advice and opinions from adults about how we should behave online. (mysterious music) - When decisions are made for younger people, our opinions are overlooked. - When decisions are made for young people, it takes away from them being able to share their thoughts. - It’s important to involve young people in decisions that affect them because it lets them know that they get a say in the matter and their opinions are being heard.

02:37 - - Then they get to be more independent and get a place to voice their own opinion. - Everybody should get an equal say in something that will affect them in the future. - It lets them know the options that matter the most to them, and lets them know what to do in a bad situation. - As a young person, I can take control of my online safety and what measures I use to implement it. - As a young person, I can finally take initiative to do my own research into online safety and teach others what I know and that is so important because a lot of us spend most of our time online.

03:12 - - I want adults to know, as young people nowadays, we are capable of making substantial positive changes to the society and the world through our voices and actions. - I want adults to know that the internet isn’t inherently a bad place. - I want adults to know that young people can make the right choices with a little bit of guidance. - I want the adults to know that they can trust in our abilities as change makers.
