Hello! With you… I got snow in my mouth… With you Russian with Dasha. I am in Novosibirsk. This is my hometown, I was born here. This city is located in Siberia. I hope you can hear me. Now the wind is very strong, it is snowing, I am walking along the road. I just want to share my first impressions. I flew in last night.
00:32 - The time difference with Moscow is 4 hours, and the flight from St. Petersburg to Novosibirsk also took 4 hours. I came to visit my parents for six days, and our pets were the first to meet me.
00:47 - The dog almost ate me, so much joy, the cat was more phlegmatic, the parrot, in general, in my opinion, did not recognize me. Well, he is already many years old, he has been living with my parents for 14 years, he was already an adult when he was adopted, so I don’t even know how old this parrot is.
01:08 - His name is Gosha. The dog is 12 years old, the cat is 8. I’m going on business now. I have some plans to do, and at the same time I want to share my impressions with you. To get to the city center, you first need to take a 20-minute bus, and then take the metro. The first metro station is the Ploshchad Marksa (Marks Square) metro station. Marks Square is generally a legendary station.
01:46 - Previously, there was a market on it. In the nineties there were no shops, supermarkets, malls, of course ; there were only grocery stores, markets, some small shops. We used to buy all the clothes in the market, and the market was open at any time of the year, even in winter. Imagine if, for example, a schooler needed to buy trousers in winter, we would come to the market, approach the desired stall, I don’t even remember what it was called… And right there you could try on trousers.
02:31 - They just took a regular cardboard box and put it on the floor. You took off your shoes, in 30-degree frost you took off your pants, well, of course, there was some kind of a fitting room behind the curtain. And in the cold, we learned how to quickly take off and put on clothes. Now Marks Square looks completely different - several shopping centers have been built there , but there is still an unfinished hotel there. This hotel is probably thirty years old, if not more.
It was built when I was still a child, and for some reason it was not completed. In my opinion, there is a crack in the foundation. In general, this hotel is still unfinished; it is expensive to disassemble, and it is hard to finish the construction, so different advertisements are placed on its facade. What other interesting things have I noticed? I went to the store to buy a memory card, when I got out and went to the subway, I saw a woman with a sign that said “gold”.
There was a feeling that it was still the 90s - you can approach this woman, bring her your gold, she will give you money for it. The metro in Novosibirsk is small when compared to the metro in St. Petersburg or Moscow. The longest metro bridge in the world is located in our city, I’ll show you. I also want to say that this metro isn’t deep underground, there are practically no escalators , only a few stations have escalators, mostly just stairs.
05:10 - I approached the legendary place, it does not look very nice from the outside. Here is the facade.
05:22 - This is the Basilfood Cooking School. This is a school that my friends opened, I also participated in the organizational process and even gave several master classes in English. Here is the food delivery entrance “Tut van vot” - this is also my friends’ delivery.
05:44 - I ordered shrimp pad thai and a drink. Very tasty, I recommend it to everyone! The doors in the Novosibirsk metro are very heavy. Check it out - the descent is wheelchair accessible. It’s just… Would you risk going down? Wow! How cute it is here! I arrived at Lenin Square - this is the main city square. For some reason I forgot that there was a new year recently. Look - everything is decorated here, what a cute Christmas tree! Here is a skating rink! I totally forgot… Let’s go and see. This is the Opera and Ballet Theater, which is now called Novat. Here the snow has not yet been completely removed, but people are already skating.
06:55 - I went to this theater several times, watched the ballet “The Sleeping Beauty”, I also watched “The Nutcracker”, it was in my childhood. When I was in school, we often came here, to Lenin Square, to spend time, take a walk, maybe even get to know someone. There have always been many young people here. Now I will show you a monument to Lenin and a monument to a worker and collective farmer. Here is Lenin, behind him are a worker and a collective farmer. This is the building of the mayor’s office of Novosibirsk, across the road is the building of the local history museum of the city of Novosibirsk.
This is a museum that you can visit to learn the history of the Novosibirsk region. There, in my opinion, there is even a stuffed mammoth. I was very lucky with the weather - a few days ago it was -40 degrees, now -5. Exactly the same temperature as in Karelia. If you have not watched my video about Karelia, more precisely two videos, links will appear in the corner of the screen. Siberian romance.
08:15 - The stage of the opera house was the largest in Russia, and the props for the opera Aida did not fit on any other stage in Russia. While I was living in Novosibirsk, I did not notice this, but now I came from St. Petersburg and immediately noticed that a lot of guys wear a tracksuit. Now in the subway I saw several such pairs: a girl in a dress, and a young man in sweatpants, a sports jacket. These are not gopniks, no, these are just ordinary guys who love sports.
09:04 - Central Park. I noticed that in Novosibirsk, almost all people in the subway wear masks, while in St. Petersburg, about half of the people in the subway go without a mask. Well done, Novosibirsk! I have nothing, friends, leave me alone. In the warm season, this park has attractions, you can ride a roller coaster. In America, this attraction is called “Russian mountains”, and in our country - American. I see a squirrel! There she is, behind the tree! This is the alley of Red Avenue, the longest straight street in the world.
This is the building of the Mining Institute, I went there to see my supervisor when I wrote my diploma, this is the Novosibirsk State Medical University, which graduates future doctors. It says here: Promstroyproekt. In general, here it is - the main street of Novosibirsk. I don’t remember how many kilometers it is, I’ve already talked about this in my podcast called Russian with Dasha, the link is below, in the description. Not far from here there used to be a trendy club called Rock city, we went there when we were 18 and got drunk.
Since then I try not to mix cocktails. I already look like a Snow Maiden - hair and eyelashes in the snow. The building that once housed the Rock city club. I don’t know if it is open now. In my opinion, it has already been closed. State University of Architecture and Arts. Hall of Fame. Honorary citizens of Novosibirsk: various teachers, police officers, directors. The pigeons want to steal the child.
11:44 - This is a stand with the heroes of the Soviet Union who lived in the Central District. This is a fountain, and next to it you see a chapel. It is on Krasniy prospect. I also talked about this chapel in my podcast episode, which is called “I am a Siberian”. Listen, a very interesting story.
12:24 - Friends, it was very cold, and my camera simply could not cope with the frost, so I did not shoot much, I was busy with family matters. Now I am on the embankment, I decided to show you the longest metro bridge in the world. This is a metro bridge, and this is the Ob River embankment. Today is a wonderful sunny weather, very cool, a little frosty, but the sun is warming, you can feel that spring is coming. This is what the ice slide looks like.
13:19 - The city of Novosibirsk is an industrial city, there used to be a lot of factories here, there are several good universities, for example, the Technical University where I studied, the State University in Akademgorodok, medical, economic…
13:41 - My trip to Novosibirsk turned out to be very family-like, I spent time with my parents, met with several friends, and tomorrow I am already flying back to St. Petersburg. .
