(lighthearted music) Hello and welcome to the very first BCPS Sings event.
00:23 - We are so excited to have you here with us making music.
00:26 - Music makes all of us in Baltimore county a community.
00:31 - Today, we will celebrate our community, the wonderful composers from right here in our schools and you, the singers of Baltimore county public schools.
00:40 - Throughout the evening, we will hear from each of our composers and their inspiration for writing the songs we will be singing.
00:47 - What might inspire you to compose a song? Make sure you take a picture of yourself singing the songs, send the picture to your music teacher to show them that you are a part of the celebration of music.
00:59 - Or, tweet using the #BCPSSings. Get ready to sing along.
01:07 - (gentle music) Hello BCPS friends. This is Brent Hardesty, and I teach at Dundalk Elementary school.
01:18 - And I wrote the song “One Day Soon. ” I wrote it to try to capture the feelings surrounding coming back here at my school and seeing my friends and my colleagues again.
01:29 - I knew there were gonna be emotional moments as we began to connect after a long year apart.
01:36 - That’s just the way things are. We miss each other.
01:39 - And I hope you enjoy singing the song as much as I enjoy creating it for you.
01:43 - If you listen, you’ll hear a verse, you’ll hear another little chorus.
01:50 - You’ll see another verse, you’ll hear another chorus.
01:53 - And a little part called the bridge. See if you can hear those large sections as you listen to the song.
01:59 - Hope you enjoy it and hope that we can gather together as a choir like this again, one day soon.
02:09 - (gentle music) ♪ Life is like the seasons ♪ ♪ Good and bad times come and go ♪ ♪ Winter never lasts forever ♪ ♪ Spring will come again I know ♪ ♪ One day soon we’ll be together ♪ ♪ One day soon with all our friends ♪ ♪ One day soon things will be better ♪ ♪ Troubled times will surely end ♪ ♪ And we will sing a different tune ♪ ♪ One day soon ♪ ♪ Storms have come to test us ♪ ♪ Bringing days of wind and rain ♪ ♪ But this only makes us stronger ♪ ♪ Soon the sun will shine again ♪ ♪ One day soon we’ll be together ♪ ♪ One day soon with all our friends ♪ ♪ One day soon things will be better ♪ ♪ Troubled times will surely end ♪ ♪ And we will sing a different tune ♪ ♪ One day soon ♪ ♪ The ice and snow will melt away ♪ ♪ Flowers will grow ♪ ♪ And we will face another day ♪ ♪ One day soon we’ll be together ♪ ♪ One day soon with all our friends ♪ ♪ One day soon things will be better ♪ ♪ Troubled times will surely end ♪ ♪ We will sing a different tune ♪ ♪ One day soon ♪ ♪ One day soon ♪ ♪ One day soon ♪ ♪ We sill sing a different tune ♪ ♪ One day soon ♪ (gentle music) Hi, my name is Diana Saez and I am director of choral activities at Towson University.
05:04 - I remember learning the song “La Paloma,” when I was a little kid down in Puerto Rico.
05:11 - I also remember singing this song at school and on school trips.
05:17 - It has a very simple structure and a catchy melody.
05:21 - And the words go like this (speaking in foreign language).
05:36 - It’s a very simple song, but it’s still a beautiful melody.
05:41 - (gentle music) (woman singing in foreign language) (gentle music) Hello. My name is Rachel Tanenblatt.
06:24 - I’m the vocal music teacher at Woodham Elementary school.
06:27 - In the fall of 2020, I was looking for a new song to teach the syncho palm rhythm.
06:32 - And I wanted a song that was in minor tonality.
06:34 - So I decided to write a new song of my own.
06:37 - I wrote it specifically to be taught during virtual learning because the leader can sing the song first and then everybody else in the class can unmute their microphones and echo the song after them.
06:48 - This has been a difficult year for many of us, as we continue to endure a global pandemic and countless civil rights issues in our own country.
06:56 - So in this song, I hope for peace, love and joy.
07:01 - I hope that by singing this song together, we can create some peace, love and joy together right now.
07:08 - Thank you. And please enjoy “Let There Be Peace. ” ♪ Let there be peace on earth ♪ ♪ Peace on earth ♪ ♪ Let there be peace on earth ♪ ♪ Peace on earth ♪ ♪ Let there be peace, let there be peace ♪ ♪ Let there be peace on earth ♪ ♪ Peace on earth ♪ ♪ I am the peace on earth ♪ ♪ Peace on earth ♪ ♪ I am the peace on earth ♪ ♪ Peace on earth ♪ ♪ I am the peace ♪ ♪ I am the peace ♪ ♪ I am the peace on earth ♪ ♪ Peace on earth ♪ ♪ Let there be love on earth ♪ ♪ Love on earth ♪ ♪ Let there be love on earth ♪ ♪ Love on earth ♪ ♪ Let there be love, let there be love ♪ ♪ Let there be love on earth ♪ ♪ Love on earth ♪ ♪ I am the love on earth ♪ ♪ Love on earth ♪ ♪ I am the love on earth ♪ ♪ Love on earth ♪ ♪ I am the love, I am the love ♪ ♪ I am the love on earth ♪ ♪ Love on earth ♪ ♪ Let there be joy on earth ♪ ♪ Joy on earth ♪ ♪ Let there be joy on earth ♪ ♪ Joy on earth ♪ ♪ Let there be joy, let there joy ♪ ♪ Let there be joy on earth ♪ ♪ I am the joy on earth ♪ ♪ Joy on earth ♪ ♪ I am the joy on earth ♪ ♪ Joy on earth ♪ ♪ I am the joy ♪ ♪ I am the joy ♪ ♪ I am the joy on earth ♪ ♪ Joy on earth ♪ (gentle music) Hi, my name is Diana Saez, and I am the director of choral activities at Towson University.
10:12 - What inspired me to write this song, (speaking in foreign language), was a short poem I remember having learned when I was young.
10:22 - It was about a pepper and an onion dancing together in the pot.
10:27 - So I thought it would be a good idea to expand on that concept and write a song that would have been appropriate for them to sing and dance to in the pot party.
10:37 - And I hope that you will enjoy teaching this song to your students.
10:42 - And I encourage you to expand on the call and response section, improvise, add musical instruments, dance to it.
10:52 - And who knows, maybe you can use the ingredients and cook a soup together with your students.
10:58 - So this is what the words of the song say. (woman speaking in foreign language) (upbeat music) (woman singing in foreign language) (gentle music) Hello, I am Ms. White also known as Ms. Blue.
13:32 - And I’ve been teaching vocal music at Colgate Elementary school for six years.
13:37 - And I’m also a low key rock star. So I’ve made a bunch of kid-friendly songs to help us be and feel our best.
13:44 - You’ll be hearing three songs I wrote about integrity, caring and compassion.
13:49 - Each month, our school focuses on a different virtue, a good quality or a useful quality that we can all demonstrate.
13:57 - And I would write a song to help us remember what the virtue is and how to show it.
14:02 - Why it matters. And you’ll be hearing the first three I wrote today for the virtue, sweet.
14:10 - Thank you for being here. I hope you can sing or dance along.
14:13 - And either way, let’s just keep being the best we can be.

20:06 - Our final song was composed by Czarina Jimenez.
20:10 - It was written in 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, when many of us were feeling separated and alone.
20:17 - The song inspires us to take care of ourselves and each other, even when we are apart.
