- Hi, I’m Senator Patrick Leahy. I wanted to thank all of you for your commitment to keeping the UVM community safe from COVID-19. Everywhere I go in the U.S. Capitol, I’m wearing that. I’m in my office now so I’m all alone, that’s about the only time it comes off. But look what you’ve done. You’ve now collectively taken 100,000 COVID-19 tests. You should be very, very proud of playing a role in this milestone for UVM. It’s made UVM nationally recognized and Marcelle and I are so proud of you.
00:42 - But you, your fellow students, UVM’s faculty, you continue to lead the best way. You’ve done it by example. You’ve shown in clear terms why Vermont, our state, has been one of the most successful states in combating the coronavirus pandemic. And I know this year hasn’t been easy. I’ve talked to my own kids who were students at UVM, but you’ve shown that you’re up to the challenge. You’ve taken the Green and Gold Promise and I’m so proud of that. You’ve respected social distancing and masking requirements, and President Garimella tells me you’ve been tested an awful lot.
01:30 - Now it’s only through testing and following the science that we’re going to be able to identify and control the spread of the coronavirus. With that in mind, please help yourself and all of us, continue to be a leader on campus. Tell your friends to get tested if they believe they’ve been exposed to COVID-19. If you listen to, or you stick to the safety guidance, you take these tests, I can tell you right now, you do make a difference. This is how we can save lives. This is how we can get back to the kind of normal that we all so much want for our families, for our campus, for our community and for our nation. You’re doing the right thing.
02:24 - In challenging times like this it’s even more important than ever we recognize our accomplishments and we celebrate them, safely of course. So thank you for getting tested. Go Cats. .
