ULMA Handling systems is an intra-logistic engineering company, part of the ULMA Group. We are located in Oñati, Guipúzcoa, and employ 400 professionals. The importance of the logistical processes of our clients means that it is essential to have automated system with a high level of availability. We at ULMA Handling develop automatic systems which services clients’ logistical processes 247. To reach this goal of full access to our systems, we require the right service, and for this we need to monitor all the critical parts of the facility to have them under control, be able to improve them and offer the efficiency and effectiveness our clients require.

01:14 - The product we have developed at ULMA Handling systems is a tool for real-time monitoring of the system, within the premises of the client. The main technical challenge that we had to solve was the issue of capturing the highest amount of data possible from all the devices and machines inside the facilities, process the data, integrate it and making sense of it, so that we can respond and can prevent failures. The product we have developed contains two parts: first a local platform which we install on the client servers, that collects all the information on the elements in the depot and sends it to the higher layers through OPC UA. In the ULMA cloud we keep product record to combine all the information from the local records, offering a unique and global view through which we can monitor the whole industrial complex in ULMA. We have implemented this product in 6 locations and have been working with this platform for 3 years with good results which allow us to predict incidents and send the intervention teams in advance, as well as to provide remote assistance of higher quality and reliability.

02:36 - To give you an idea, we handle nearly 1,000 different data points at all time in these 6 locations which allow us to collect and exploit the data in real time. The added value this technology has brought us is a better understanding of our facilities for a more predictive maintenance approach, and above all enabling current and future decision-making. We usually say that we have added an intelligent mind to our automatic depots. .
