Welcome to a new Techview VLog How you can see I am again in sunny Auckland and this is the Alten Reserve yes thats really the name Alten Reserve near my accommodation and here I have a topic that might be a bit old a smartphone namely the Sony Xperia 1 which got announced almost a year ago about a year ago announced on the MWC now that the MWC is canceled and the successor might be announced Xperia 1.1 or Xperia 0 or however it will be called and I thought ok lets do a review this device here or lets say I want to share my long time experience with this device I already use this device since several months It is about 6 months on the market and yeah I want to tell you what I encountered so far the first thing that you will obvsiouly see the unusual display design in the 21:9 aspect ratio that is indeed something that other manufacturers also do nowadays Motorola copied it and Sony was the pioneer even Samsung now has a similiar aspect ratio with its new S20 20 to 54 something to 9 or something I don’t know comma 4 5 or 20 comma 9 to 9 overall they are in comparable measurements like the Xperia 1 and I believe even the S20+ has the same narrow sizes as the Xperia 5 so yeah that is basically the trend thats the way to go as we are talking about the display thats really a wonderful display Sony included here 4k…. Amoled but I have to say in all honesty on a daily basis…ne…. you don’t notice the difference to my Huawei Mate 30 Pro or my P30 with only a FullHD resolution a streched FullHD resolution I must say but you don’t notice the difference But as soon as you open Netflix or another video streaming app that is supported here and watch videos with 4k resolution and even have HDR activated then a dream comes true thats really a super glorious display also the creator mode that allows you to see the color and color reproduction of movies and series like the producer or creator wanted it thats really is a great function and is super okay and even in sunlight… you can see the sun is shining here directly on it it offers good visibility and readability the super AMOLED or AMOLED display produces good contrasts ratios and good brightness lets take a look around the device and we will see that a headphone jack is missing so people who want to attach a microphone or a headphone are missing the possibility to do this directly and you can only do this with the USB type C plug and a dongle which I use on my Mate 30 Pro to record this video currently there I attached my microphone without any issue besides that you can find a speaker at the bottom side of the phone this one is used in combination with the upper earpiece to create a stereo like sound Together with Dolby Atmos this produces a super fine sound especially if you watch series or movies on Amazon Prime, Netflix and however those are called this is noticeable very very good regarding the sound better than the mono sound of my P30 or Mate 30 Pro granted it will be a bit tinny if you go up to 100% volume but if you go just a bit down to 90 or 95% it sounds really good and loud The device is very well build and solid but you can see I am using a case around it as it would be too slippery for me otherwise I in general like cases on my smartphones so you need to excuse me on that I only tested it with the case on in my long term testing Overall a super solid smartphone…

no problems with it 04:29 - in that regard Only complain I have if you take a look at the buttons the power button is separated from the fingerprint and that is a bit annoying but even then if the fingerprint would work reliable that would be no problem but as soon if I have a bit sweaty or wet fingers it does not work anymore and I have to enter my pin which is a bit frustrating But thats enough to the hardware itself. I also created a video where I claim its a construction issue this fingerprint scanner Lets continue now by taking a look at the back 3 cameras triple cameras ultra wide angle, wide angle and tele 2 times zoom you can find there which allow with their 12 Megapixels good good photos. For more you can take a look at my camera review It can compete with the premium class but not surpass them its located in the bottom premium class niveau front camera does not provide 4k but can record in fullhd with good stabilization you can see this in more details also in my camera review Regarding the software this is now running Android 10 originally it shipped with Android 9 and now it is running Android 10. So Sony kept its upgrade promise and they are also relatively good regarding security patches As of february we now have security patch level January on it running Android 10 on the Sony Xperia 1 a good thing they keep up relatively good and also the next Android upgrade should appear for it aswell aswell as the almost identically constructed brother device Xperia 5 ähm besides that what can I say about this device battery life time is a bit short with its 3300mAh battery for the 4k display power usage might be a bit too high but I can survive the day with it but 4 to 5 hours on screen time ähm… it actually is called screen on time so the time the screen is on is the maximum you can get from this device Regarding the connectivity radio reception is good. No problems LTE, is stable Data no issue…. calling no issue…

sound quality is ok 06:45 - working aswell as on other smartphones in this category Likewise the device is very thin it is ähm… balanced despite the long stretched display thats a really good point and it isn’t really heavy which is also pretty good but it also cannot always fit in everyones pockets and is sometimes peeking outside the pocket which is a bit annoying because it is simply a bit too long Therefor I would say for people who are interested in a Xperia 1 and you like the features and functions there I can recommend take a look at the Xperia 5 which does not have a 4k display but still has a… super… AMOLED display and this features besides that the same hardware so might be interesting for you But lets stay with this good device here I am very happy by the fact on the top of the device you can simply change the SIM card You don’t need a SIM eject tool As I arrived here in Auckland for example Ah I need a SIM card So I go to a SIM card shop and I buy me a prepaid sim and yeah how do I insert it? I don’t have a SIM eject tool all left at home Thanks god I have my Sony Xperia 1 with me I only need to put my fingernail in the top opening eject the SIM card slot and insert the SIM or also can insert a MicroSD card and put it back together A very good feature Thats a Sony only feature… Why is only Sony doing this? Why can no other manufacturer come up with this? Huawei,…. Samsung LG and all the others A really good feature Now you can hear a siren in the background maybe not.

I just continue talking 08:25 - Sound quality like I said pretty good not only via the speakers but also the dongle produces good sound even though its only analogue and not digital. Huawei for example ships with a digital headset and here it is just analogue which does not need extra power and works far with all headsets and you can also plug in microphones I also plugged in my mic for example and attached to the Mate 30 Pro with the same dongle and it works Good that Sony provides such a thing Battery is a bit problematic and I would whish the successor would ship with a 4000 mAh battery even though the device would get a bit thicker You can really make it a bit thicker you can see here even regarding the handling I have a case and with this the camera bump the higher camera hill will be flattened so it should be possible for Sony to do it directly and make it nearly as flat for a better bigger battery welcomed by a lot of people surely Fast Charging is possible via USB type C You can also project stuff with it its a USB type C 3.1 connector so you can project video output via hdmi but Sony does not provide an extra desktop user interface so also interesting for people who want to do that Besides that I can only say its a very solid phone which does not break too quickly I dropped it already several times on the ground. No issues In terms of cameras I would like to see better quality in general What I really like is the development of the Camera Pro app Ähm… its called Cinema Pro app I will make another separate video for this for people who are interested in it Solid hardware and solid Software good software that got updated continuously So for all who saw a review of the Xperia 1 that is now almost 6 months old don’t trust them so much as with software updates for example the camera app got improved and with Android 10 even the speed and the camera app does not crash so often anymore so does not crash as often as in the beginning on Android 9 granted With Android 10 I did not have a single crash and I can tell you the newest software works fluently and good So overall what would I say about the Sony Xperia 1(0) Ah I forgot the Free Software Index It can be unlocked so I think it gets 5 from 10 stars or 5 from 10 points because it is unlockable and you can put your own operating system on it Sony delivers with their Open Device program including Xperia 1 and 5 the possibility to flash your own Android operating system or a SailfishOS or something like that Although SailfishOS…..

Jolla release a version for the Xperia 1 please 11:32 - that would make me happy to test that It is a very solid, rock solid release by Sony a comeback phone Especially interesting for those who think this device will be cheaper now or its little brother will be cheaper now that the successor will be coming pretty soon So I can recommend to take a look at it Even though the aspect ratio is a bit unusual on first look In the future we have to adapt to this aspect ratio anyway I fear…. Do I really fear it? Nope I welcome it partly Because it is a good format and the devices can get bigger but stay handy so wonderfully manageable in one hand though on the upper part of the screen I cannot reach but Sony gladly provides us with ähm…. the swipe down feature to see the notifications and click on them without any issues So regarding the Free Software Index Sony is almost ideal and click on them without any issues So regarding the Free Software Index Sony is almost ideal not in the 10 percent (points) niveau but still but 5 or even more points, I will insert that here so you can read it on your own probably as overlay over my face because who wants to see my face for a 10 or 12 minute long video nunja… overall A very good device that I will keep it replaces my BlackBerry Key2 device because it is a way faster phone with better camera And the filmic… no not filmic but ähm… CInema Pro app its really the shit if you ever get to work with it you can really do beautiful good things with it and I will present this to you in a separate video What kind of experiences did you do with the Xperia 1 or the Xperia 5? It would really interest me and post in the comments section besides that like and subscribe and all this shit.

Thats it for this VLog 13:20 - from sunny Auckland in New Zealand to the coldness in Germany where you are probably right now ähm naja too cold it shouldn’t be there either Until the next time bye.
