Hello and welcome to PLOS video shorts. This video will show you: How to register for an ORCID iD , how to link your ORCID to your PLOS Editorial Manager profile, and how to enable automatic updates to your ORCID profile through Crossref and other partner organizations. PLOS requires that all corresponding authors provide an ORCID iD at submission. We also recommend ORCID for everyone participating in the peer review process, including coauthors, reviewers, and Editorial Board members. There are two ways to register and link your ORCID in Editorial Manager Starting from the Editorial Manager sign in screen, click the green “iD” button. This will open the ORCID pop-up window. If you already have an ORCID iD, enter your ID number or email and your password in the spaces provided and select “Authorize.

” 01:01 - If you do not yet have an ORCID , choose “Register now” and complete the short registration form. Once you have finished, sign in to Editorial Manager as usual using your existing username and password. Your ORCID is now linked to your profile in the submission system. Going forward, your ORCID iD will be automatically attached to any manuscripts you submit as a corresponding author. Alternatively, you can manually enter your ORCID into your Editorial Manager profile page.

01:37 - Select the “Update my Information” link located in the top left hand corner of the main menu to open your profile. In the “Personal Information” section of your profile page, click “Fetch/Register” link that appears alongside the ORCID field. This will open the ORCID popup window, where you can either authorize an existing account, or register for an account. To enjoy the full benefits of ORCID integration, we also recommend that you authorize Crossref to automatically update your ORCID profile as new articles are published. This ensures that your PLOS articles, as well as the articles you publish with other Crossref-member-publishers, appear on your ORCID profile as soon as they are available online, without your having to make manual updates.

02:25 - When Crossref receives a citation with your ORCID, you’ll receive a message in your ORCID inbox with the subject line “Add your published work(s) to your ORCID record.” Click the “Grant permissions” button to authorize Crossref to write to your ORCID profile. You’ll have the option to authorize the update in this single instance or indefinitely. We recommend choosing indefinitely, so that your ORCID profile is always as complete and up-to-date as possible. Thank you for watching this PLOS video short.
