Welcome to my test of the Mate 30 Pro This smartphone I am testing and using since 3 months now as my main device and want to share my experience with this device Spoiler Alert: From my perspective this is one of the best Android devices on the market and the best Android device without Google Play Services you will find out more in my test now The Mate 30 Pro is one of the best camera allrounder smartphones on the market I don’t have to say much else in case of the camera, 40 Mpx main sensor and super wide angle are simply great Just take a look at my extra camera review of this phone As usual good quality workmanship, no sharp edges, modern waterfall design that might be not to everyones liking but I didn’t had problems with it despite being sceptical at first I had to get used to the volume control a bit there are no keys anymore you just have to double tap on one side and slide up and down that worked without any issues and after some getting used to it works even in your pocket if you learned the timing I would describe the loudspeaker on the bottom side of the phone only as sufficient its only a mono speaker that offers good sound quality so its not aweful but it is a bit quiet so it does not get loud enough for my taste audio quality when recording and calling is good for phone calls and recording podcasts or video recording. So no issues here. Its top class here Unlocking is done mostly by using face recognition I just have to turn it on by pressing the power button and then the face will be scanned which works super fast and reliable even faster then the really good under display fingerprint reader which I also use but mostly only when I don’t have my face close to the device because face unlock works so good a small pro tip: you should disable to leave the lock screen on when unlocking to get directly to your system Face Unlock also works with sun glasses or longer beards without big issues Storage is plenty available and upgradable via NanoMemory cards those you can get from Huawei even though there are other vendors aswell mostly you will only find Huawei ones in your market I also did this and you can store big videos on it like from the 32c3 or something else when it comes to software I didn’t had any big issues with EMUI 10 as I got the device in China on one or two occasions I encountered software still not translated to german but being in chinese like in the Reader app for example everything else works without issues if it comes to the performance of the device it is really really good then even when I put the device into powersaving mode I did not really notice it as it was working that quick apros pros powersaving this is not really necessary on this device because I can use it without any issues over the day and with the 4500 mAh battery I even manage to pull off 2 days without running through loops I only need to keep myself from charging the phone when it falls under 30 % talking about charging if I really want to do this I can do it really really quickly with the 40 Watts super charger and I can see like in a countup timer see the charge counting up besides that you can charge the device wirelessly by putting it on a induction Qi-Charger which charges with maximum of 27 watts but I only used a normal charger with 10 watts as I don’t have a Qi- SuperCharger that works for over night charging pretty well navigation is also no problem thanks to the good and reliable gps multitasking, listen to music, watch some videos and even cutting videos no problem at all you might have noticed I recorded some Techview VLogs with my Mate 30 Pro and not only that also cut those videos on it which worked fine indeed when it comes to the software in general, how does it look like with updates? all apps I installed over app gallery from Huawei can be updated with it easily via the automatic update feature if I installed apps over F-Droid or the play store using Aurora Store I need to update those manually which is a bit annoying as I need to do it one by one thats a bit annoying I would say something you need to put extra work into besides that lets come to the free software index you might know from my other videos which evaluates from 0-10 how freedom loving a product is. 10 would be GNU/Stallman approved and 0 not free at all the Mate 30 Pro only gets 2 of 10 points as you can get the free software from an opensource huawei website but the bootloader is closed so you cannot install alternative systems and are completely at the mercy of Huawei if Huawei says we don’t support this device you cannot do anything about it anymore you need to get a new device In conclusion Huawei delivers here one of the best Smartphones that you can get nowadays. It is the best Android Smartphone without Google Services and no I wasn’t convinced to install them onto this device yet. Everything is running fine even without them people who are interested in this how its possible to watch youtube and everything else should check out my other video about this topic Thats it for my test and experience of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro You probably have questions that you can ask in the comments section otherwise like and subscribe to my channel.
