LifeMatrix: Biomimetic Solutions for Life

Hi, my name is René Stenger. I’m the Co-Founder of LiFeMatrix and together here with Robin, our Project Manager, we have the pleasure today to present you the LifeMatrix team. We are a spin-off company of University of Zurich and are currently supported by the Wyss Zurich. At LiFeMatrix, we have developed a unique bio-engineered technology which results in off-the-shelf, available, scalable and, cost-effective biomimetic material called LifeMatrix. This material offers a lifelong solutions for patients with diseased heart valves, blood vessels, or other structures of the heart. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide.

Millions of implants are 01:02 - used every year to replace malformed or deceased cardiovascular tissues. Unfortunately, the currently used prosthetic materials lack the fundamental properties of native human tissue. This means they cannot grow and regenerate with the patient. They cause infections and thrombosis and, importantly they have a limited durability and need replacing over time. The biomimetic LifeMatrix implants have the potential to overcome those limitations by providing a material which transforms into living tissue after implantation and has the capacity to grow and regenerate with the patient.

01:43 - Within the next year, we want to start our first clinical trial where the LifeMatrix material is used as blood vessel in children born with a heart defect. Besides the initiation of our clinical trial, we are actively looking for investors to close our Series A financing round in the first half of next year. Venture Kick, for us, provides the ideal platform to transition from an academic environment, here at the Wyss Zurich, into a corporate setup through the huge network and financial support. In the future, patients will no longer have to replace the cardiovascular implants, as with our solutions, it will be much better accepted by the body and regenerate as human tissue. Our vision is to leverage the huge potential of LifeMatrix platform and bring a biomimetic solution to a wide range of patients.
