Hello dear lawn freaks, welcome to a new video by Lawnfreak Andreas Krauss. Today, very quickly, I will change my front roller from my Swardman. It has a smooth roller, a continuous roller, and alternatively there is a grooved front roll or roller. Why am I changing this front roll now? Stay tuned! Yes dear cylinder mower freaks, you ask yourself now: Why are there now two different front roller? There is a very simple reason for this. If the grass is already relatively high, so I say from 10-15 mm the grass is already relatively high.
00:58 - In my view, this is a grooved one roll better than a smooth roll. The lawnmower rolls over the lawn, he pushes the grasses flat against the front. And now the grasses have to get up very quickly in order to be cut by the knife. And the longer the grass is, and the thinner, the weaker the grass is, the longer it takes to line up again. You can watch it a little bit by pushing the grass on one side, and then takes your hand away. Then you can see how slowly the grass comes up again. On short mowed golf courses you only mow with the smooth roller. On fairways, and I also say in our regions, I would actually mow with a grooved roller. It’s also a bit of a philosophy thing. Because the grooved roll doesn’t make the grasses so strong in the front, especially not all are pushed so strongly in one direction. The grass remains standing and can now be cut even better. Now we’re rebuilding.
02:15 - We need the Swardman tool kit, the key is enough here. Here are such small nuts that you have to loosen on both sides, and then you can already change the front roll. So actually a no- brainer. Loosen the two nuts here on the outside. Aha it turns with… other side… okay it comes loose. You just have to loosen it a little… can see… no, you have to unscrew it completely. Okay… ah yes… it’s interesting. You have to unscrew completely, do not lose the screw, and then solve the other side. We already have…, it’s not all perfect with the Swardman, now we have a problem. Of course, this small shaft is supported in the roll via ball bearings.
03:26 - So if I want to loosen the screw, of course, and it’s screwed tight, then the small shaft starts spinning here. So it would be optimal if you had a small bowl surface. So here a milled bowl surface, around here on the side, because there is a nice space in between, to hold onto the shaft on this side now. I have to get a pair of pliers now to hold the shaft so that it doesn’t turn So little improvement, I can only recommend milling a bowl surface here, and then you can put it in here and then you can loosen the nut perfectly. So now I’m going to take the pliers with a bit of cloth in between and I can hold them now. Unscrew the shaft and the nut. Don’t lose, it already happens. So now - zack - out on one side…
04:31 - Yes great Andreas, now of course you have the… let’s put it down carefully. The front roller has ends of different lengths, and the short end comes in here in the hole. That fits well. Zack… all the way in, all the way in, and done. Push all the way back, be careful. Just noticed. Push all the way back so that the shaft is not at an angle. It makes no real difference. Turns with… of course… here it goes now… The shaft turns, that’s just crap. Now I have to hold onto this little shaft again when screwing it down, and can only then screw tightly. It’s not perfect yet, it’s not perfect. Very good. OK. Yes freaks, let’s go, just a quick mowing. One last note that I forgot. This grooved front roller pushes the mower a little more strongly onto the ground.
06:17 - Through the grass, and of course this also changes the cutting height a bit. So the cutting height is probably a little lower now, than with the smooth roller because the smooth roller lies more on the lawn, and the grooved roller pushes the grass more. Let’s go! Yeah [Music] Mega, mega. Nice tool! Gorgeous cut here, gorgeous. A lot of stuff came down. Awesome. Sometimes it ticks. The roller is of course, that is an aluminum roller, the roller is of course a bit more sensitive, you can see that.
09:55 - Small stones now create the first notches here on the end face. Here, there at the point, there are so small quirks on it, because that’s just very thin. It has all advantages and disadvantages, you have to keep in mind that it always has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is: That longer grass is not pushed down so much, the grass stops and can be mowed better. The sectional view looks great, I think. Disadvantage is: Because the contact surface is only very thin, i.e.
only 2-3 mm wide, 10:34 - the aluminum roller is of course also very sensitive. You can already see the little quirks here on the roll, through stones, through the sand of the worm cluster. And the last disadvantage is of course: There is this wire at the back, can you watch my other video again, this wire to wipe the dirt off the roll. Of course it doesn’t work that well. Of course it works here on the end face, but if dirt gets into the grooves here, then he stays in there too. The grooves are very strongly V-shaped, which I actually find very nice.
11:13 - It looks really good and the mowing pattern looks great. That’s it for today. Thank you for watching. Stay tuned! I’m glad! Your Lawnfreak is at the start, also in the next video. See you. bye Here… another stick. Ah, a little choke! Bye .
