Hello and welcome to bigcroc airsoft so today Iam going to share my own experience on different radio placement on a plate carrier some of the pros and cons on different position. so I have put the radio on front , back of the cummerbund and the back of the plate carrier. so first let’s talk about the front of the cummerbund and the pros and cons. there are 2 ways to attach the radio in the front you can either put it in a molle radio pouch on the cummer bund or you can use one of these velcro side wing and attach it on the front panel and there are pros and cons of each of them so let’s go over the sidewing first for a sidewing pouch, you velcro it on the front and you wrap around it with cummerbund and put down the front flap to secure it and the good thing about it is that it will be secure tightly in front it will not drag the pouch down as the velcro is pretty secured.

and also if you have your wiring to the PTTin front. when you take off the cummerbund, the wiring would not get in the way having the radio in front does not really restrict your movement. when you are rotating, going under trees/branches. the radio is in front of you when you crouch down, so it wouldn’t get snatch on branches and I usually put it in the left side since my left arm is extend to hold the rifle and the right arm is tight against my body so i usually have something flat on my right side.

and on that day if you do not feel like bringing a radio. you can simply take out the sidewing without interfering with your whole plate carrier setup. and andother good thing is that you can get a slight adjustment in height. velcroing in the front panel, you can about 1-2 inch of adjustment. where as if you are molleing on a cummerbund the position is fixed and you cannot do any height adjustment. and some of the downside of the side wing is that.

since it is under your cummerbund. the radio will be digging into your body and some people might not find that comfortable. and the other thing is that. if you need to take the radio out to change the channel or settings. after you taken it out. the pouch will most likely to collapse so you will have a hard time putting it back in without taking out the cummerbund and if you have something like that ferro wingman. where it is made from elastic fabric.

its almost impossible to put the radio back when its under the cummerbund. so just to keep that in mind. and for sidewing, besides this new crye airlite crye has an old one, the ferro, spiritus system also makes one. and out of all the side wings, I currently like the Airlite one the most simply because you can adjust the height up and down. and this video is mainly for big chucky radio like this, the 152 or 148. and another good thing about the side wing is that once the cummerbund goes over it.

if does not waste molle spot, and you can attach something else if you need to. and now moving on to the placement on front of cummerbund. on a pouch. the pros and cons is pretty much the opposite of the sidewing so for example if you have your radio here. and you have your wiring setup. if you take out the cummerbund , it might yank the wiring. and also since the radio is heavy, when you take out the cummerbund, it will fall hard and its hard to control.

so if you decided to mount it on front of the cummerbund, Iwill not take it off when I am putting on/off the vest. and then there is the molle spot used for radio and not something else. well good thing is that it is outside of the cummerbund so it woulnd’t dig into your body. and its easy to take it out/put it back in if you need to when you are choosing a radio pouch there are a few things to consider. first is the height.

so for me , I don’t like to have the radio too high. so this crye 152 pouch I can have it sit pretty low in the cummerbund as you can see only a little bit is sticking out. and if I am using the S&S enhance radio pouch. and since its molle doesnt start on top. so if I am putting this one on you will see almost half of the radio is coming over the cummerbund. and this gets into my face on top (the antena ) but if you have one that is sitting too low.

when you crouch down it will bump into yout thigh and it will bump the whole cummerbund up, something to watch out for. and there are also radio pouch like the. where you can tilt the radio to access the keypad. and you can pull it back without taking the radio out. those are for easier access to the keypad. another thing to conside is that. if you are not bringing the radio on that day, can the pouch be used for something else.

so for example if I am using the S&S. and if I am not using the radio on that day. this pouch cannot be use for anything else. you might be able to fit a mag but it might be a waste of space. and there are limited stuff that you can put due to open tops and side opening. so by choosing the crye 152. since it is a flap molle pouch, if I am not bringing a radio. I can use if to store let say 2 more mags as it is something useful.

just something to keep in mind when choosing a radio pouch you dont’ want to constanly molleing pouch in /out next is the radio on the back of the cummerbund. the wiring setup would probably be going through the shoudler strap and to the PTT. so if you are taking off the cummerbund, it will not affect the wiring. and it wouldn’t drag the cummerbund down as you are taking it off also. and the height placement of the radio does not matter as much only when you have it too high, the antena might go over your shoulder and might have a small chance to snatch on branches.

but having the radio at the back, you can’t take it out easily. due to the limited length of the wire you might not be able to take the radio out and put it in front of you to change settings. and if you are using those tilt pouch you might not be able to reach far back to touch and see the keypad/monitor. so you probably would have to take the vest out in order to access the radio. and finally is having your radio at the back.

these 2 back position is very similar. except that if you have some kind of pouch like this. you can just put it inside without wasting tbe back cummerbund molle spot. and it will not be in your arms ways in movement and the only thing that needs to watch out for is the antena since it sits higher than cummerbund, the antena might get snatch by branches and again you can’t access the radio without taking the vest off so at first I have the S&S in left and GP97 on right but later on I need to carry a bit more stuff and the GP97 pouch was not big enough so I am using a zippack and putting the radio in the front.

but if you are not carrying that much stuff, the back would be a good choice as for the radio itself, there are a few accessories that can make this smaller. so the antena. you can attach a extended one, so you can relocate the hard antena somewhere else. and there is a power adaptor where you can break the radio from its main body and battery. so it doesn’t have to be one big chucky radio. it will be in 2 pieces. and there is a keypad controller.

where you can have it in the front and put the raido anywhere. and change the settings with the keypad in front. but with real and toy replica. the compatabiliy you will have to check , I am not sure which matches with which. and I am using a TCA 152 stock, i didnt’ get any of the accessories mentioned. and for myself, you can see I decided to put the radio in front of the cummerbund. I could use the side wing but then. for the AVS, since I have a harness and a cummerbund.

if I have the sidewing here my cummerbund will have to go over the sidewing and i will lose this molld space anyways. and I feel like it is a hazard going in and out so in the end I just decided to get a molle pouch for radio and since the harness is pretty stiff. I have no issue putting this one without taking out the left cummerbund. so Idon’t have. to mess up the wiring on the left. so this is just my personal preference and just to feel good about the idea of “in case” i need to access the radio it will be there for me.

and the radio is not limited to these 3 positions anywhere that is not blocking your movement. anywhere that is not snatching on anything. then that is the good position for you. so yea this is the Pros and Cons of these 3 positions that I have used so far. so let me know if you have another suggestion or another place for radio placement. and I will see you guys next time, like and subscribe if you like this video, thanks!.
