    2019 : Découvertes & Catastrophes

Now that we have done our 900 million kilometers around the sun, it is time to look back at the geological events that left their mark on 2019. Let’s rewind, and we shall open the year with an incredible discovery. What you see here, are the oldest traces left by the motion of a living being. A burrow that was made 2 billion years ago. Ten years ago, we still thought that the oldest multicellular organisms only appeared 600 million years ago.

Voxxed Days Luxembourg 2019 en bref

Tanja Kleut’s keynote about accessibility has drawn the attention This young blind woman has described her user experience on the web For me it was very important to participate, to talk about accessibility Most developers are not aware that today screen-readers are so powerful I wanted to show that the content can be fully accessible when it is designed with accessibility in mind. I think it is very important because there are 15% of persons with disabilities, Accessibility will surely benefit those 15% but will also benefit all the others It’s important to raise awareness This year we tried a slightly different formula we’ve added half a day ahead, with longer talks, 3 hours sessions with deep dives into specific topics next year, I think we’re going to have 2 full days The goal is to bring an event that is a bit more than just a series of conferences where people sit hence there is some surrounding animation, it’s cool and allows participants to chat, and to share interesting feedback We have sponsors contributing and helping us a lot to organize this event Mauro Strione’s keynote gave a solid impression, he dealt with an organizational topic in an humoristic manner I get a lot of good feedback I’m an agilist and the best way to communicate is face to face so we have to take advantage of the technology Technology is HOW we change and people are WHY we have to change so, we need a balance Voxxed Days Luxembourg is also about conviviality and sharing opportunities We connect with a lot of people, conference participants are very benevolent, it’s really a pleasant atmosphere for example this person in the queue, we just met him, and we chat with him, while waiting in the queue, that’s great!

Cortical information integration and connectivity during propofol anesthesia

How does a person experiencing anesthesia lose consciousness? Despite billions of surgeries, scientists still don’t fully understand what happens in the brain when a patient goes under. New research in the journal Anesthesiology, however, provides a few more clues. Working in a group of patients with epilepsy, scientists used a new information measure to evaluate electrocorticography data – and found that with anesthesia, there is a reduction in information integration and network connectivity.

Coffee with Kampas - Episode 18: The Mamba Mentality

Hi, this is John Kampas, Founder and CEO of EMPIST. By now I am sure you have heard about the nine people that lost their lives on Sunday when their helicopter crashed in LA. I must admit, this has rattled me.

Igalia Chats with Martin Robinson on a11y

Igalia interview with Martin Robinson >> Brian Kardell: okay, so, I am here with my coworker Martin Robinson from Igalia and we’re going to talk about accessibility. So, just to start us off - I think there’s kind of a interesting challenge with accessibility because it it’s just… like, really foreign to a lot of us in almost every way.

G-ICS : Green-Er Industrial System Sandbox - Interview with Stéphane Mocanu

G stands for “Green-Er”, because where are here in the Green-Er building in Grenoble And ICS stands for “Industrial Control System Sandbox”, G-ICS is a sandbox for cybersecurity tests and for learning command-and-control supervision systems. Actually a bit more. The physical processes are simulated but we do use the real command-and-control equipment : this is a platform for industrial automation and supervision of industrial systems. Yes. It is a teaching and research platform : on the teaching side, it is mainly for learning industrial supervision and communication protocols.

A new perspective on the role of phosphorylation in Alzheimer’s and other tau pathologies

Normally bound to the microtubules that give neurons their structure, the protein tau becomes detached in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. That leads to the fibrillary tangles that have become the hallmark of the disease. Most textbooks explain that post-translational modifications, or PTMs, in the form of excessive phosphorylation trigger the formation and growth of these bundles. But new findings propose a subtle though crucial refinement.

How to control a VFD with a Potentiometer on a WEG CFW100 Drive using the Optional Pot Module

The WEG CFW100 has an optional potentiometer module. You can use the potentiometer for whatever you want, but most of the time it is used to control the frequency of the drive or speed of the motor. And it’s super easy to set up. With power removed from the drive, remove the faceplate, and plug in the potentiometer module. Apply power to the drive. Let’s go to parameter 204 and enter a 5 to reset the drive parameters to factory default so we are all starting from the same place.
