Can the EU and China save the Paris Agreement in 2020? – Mattias Frumerie

I think it’s necessary for the EU and China to be working together to make sure that we reach the targets of the climate agreement or the Paris Agreement and I think there are many avenues for the EU and China to do so during 2020 with both the EU-China summit in March and also the leaders’ meeting coming up in Leipzig in September So I think there will be many opportunities for the EU and China to engage to make sure that we’re reaching the targets of the climate agreement and going beyond and increasing ambition which we need to see.

Photographing the Moon with a Smartphone and a Telescope

Hi everyone this is Nico Carver my website is at nebulaphotos.com and today I’m going to show you how to take a sharp picture of the moon with any telescope and your smartphone yes this photo was taken with my iPhone 6s which is a five year old smartphone and this Meade ETX 90 telescope which is not very expensive either you can find it on eBay for under $200 or brand-new for $400 with computerized mount this is a Maksutov Cassegrain design it has twelve hundred and fifty millimeters of focal length to give that person some perspective your smartphone camera has something like 25 or 30 millimeters maybe on the new ones up to 50 millimeters focal lengths so this is many times that you might be wondering well couldn’t I just hold my phone up to the moon and then just pinch in until I get there and the answer is no the way that the optics work you’re never going to be able to achieve that level of detail with just a digital zoom so you always are going to need something with more focal lengths to get a nice sharp detailed picture of the moon another thing you may have noticed about this photograph is that the moon is only half full why didn’t I wait until the moon was completely full to take the picture because then you can see more of the moon right well the problem with that is that when the moon is completely full it means that the earth is right in between the Sun and the moon and the Sun is has it’s raised directly onto the moon’s face and so if you light something straight on like that you don’t get any depth because the lighting is just coming straight on right now I’m lit by the side here and that gives my face some depth and a 3d feeling and the same thing happens with the moon when it’s not fully lit straight on like this we get a lot more definition in all these little craters and all the features that really gives it that nice 3d feeling a lot of times when you just look at a picture of a full moon it just looks like sort of like this white disc you can see the features but they’re not in high contrast and it’s really that contrast and that 3d feeling that gives a picture that feeling of sharpness that’s not like the the technical definition of sharpness but it’s just what I’m saying it when you people say that’s a sharp picture what they really mean is that it has a lot of that high local contrast in the features which are produced by shadows and it’s all about the angle of the light so I like taking pictures of the moon when it’s in phase this is a third quarter moon or last quarter moon but I also like taking pictures of it when it’s in the gibbous phase when it’s a little bit more full but not completely full you then get this nice Terminator effect where you can really see the High Definition craters along the edge there all right so how do we actually do it how do we take a picture of the moon with our phone and our telescope well if you’ve been to like a star party or a stargazing event you’ll see a lot of people just trying to hold up their phone to the eyepiece and it’s very difficult to get a good picture that way there’s two reasons the first is is that it’s actually really hard just to find where to put the lens so that it’s in the right path for it to pick up what’s in the eyepiece it’s much easier when we’re just putting our eye up to it for some reason because we can just sort of quickly move around our head and the other reason that it’s hard to take a picture this way just by holding the phone up to the eyepiece like this is because of our hand and our arm so when you’re holding something out like this even if you don’t notice it there’s really high frequency gear whenever you’re holding any kind of weight out and that will make the photo blurry so really what we want is some way to get it at the exact right place and also hold it securely on there and so we can take the photo without the jitter of holding the phone and so that’s where devices like this enter and they do a really good job they’re usually made out of plastic so they’re not super expensive but and they may break over time but they do the job well they’re called a universal smartphone adapter and this one is made by Carson it’s called the hookups version - and I’ve used it a few times now it works pretty well I can recommend it I don’t know about the durability of it but I know that it does work so the way that it works is you first loosen up this little top piece you then pull open this piece right here and you position your phone in like that with the camera facing out this way but you can see right now my camera lens isn’t lined up with that little hole in the middle so what I want to do is just move the phone around a little bit until it is then I’m gonna lock that position into place by pushing this piece down and locking it and if it’s not quite centered I can use this little knob down here to Center it in the hole and once I’ve done that don’t worry about getting it like perfectly centered right now because once you put it on the telescope and are focusing on the moon then you can really work on getting it in the right position with this little knob because sometimes the actual correct position is not going to actually be with the lens completely centered there it just all just depends on how it sits on the eyepiece there but then the way it works is you have this already you go out you find the moon with your telescope which I’ll get into in a second and then you just take the clamp here you push in you put that over the eyepiece you look at your camera app and you just position it with this little knob you focus with the telescope and you take your picture that’s it a really simple kind of Astro photography but you can get really nice results on especially for sharing on social media and things like that other than the challenge of giving the phone on there which this largely solves the other challenge in moon photography is just getting it lined up in the telescope and having it in the field of view long enough so that you can take your photograph and so the first challenge of finding it is sort of the same no matter what kind of telescope you have you’re going to have to use probably the little finder scope that comes with your telescope I’m here it’s right there on my Dobsonian it’s right here and this these usually have a crosshair so you can sort of try to position that in the center and you just look through it and you just move the telescope back and forth until the moon is nice and centered in there even after you do that you might not be centered in the IP so you might have to make smaller adjustments to get the moon centered in the eyepiece once it’s in the eyepiece then you can focus and so on this telescope again this is a Meade ETX 90 this little knob right here is the focuser on this telescope which is a Skywatcher Dobsonian you have these bigger knobs to rack the focus in and out alright now we have our picture what are we going to do with it I find that with a smartphone picture like this it doesn’t usually need much editing I would just go ahead and share this with whoever you want your family you could put it on your computer and print it out or share it on social media if you did want to do some editing the app that I recommend is called Snapseed it’s available on both Android and iPhone and what I would maybe do in Snapseed is just change the contrast and the saturation and maybe the crop I got lucky with the sort of focal length and the eyepiece here that it basically filled the sensor on my smartphone but if if you had a slightly different crop and you wanted to crop it differently you could do that in a program like snap seed right so in this video I showed you how to do photography of the moon with a smartphone and an eyepiece in my next video what I want to do is show you how to do prime focus photography of the moon with a DSLR or mirrorless camera and so for prime focus photography we don’t use the eyepiece what we do instead is we get a prime focus adapter and connect it to the telescope directly and the camera becomes the eyepiece basically we don’t need to use additional optics the telescope focuses the image directly onto the camera sensor you can get higher resolution that way and a little bit more control by shooting raw or video the reason we shoot video is because then we can what’s called freeze the scene seeing is the turbulence in the air and so when you just take a snapshot you may be in a moment where the air is more turbulent or less turbulent you’re not really sure when you take a video you can take 30 frames or 60 frames a second and then find those moments where the air is still err and combine those into one super resolution image that’s even going to be sharper these are more advanced techniques but if you get interested in lunar photography from this video on I hope you join me for the next one and maybe we can even do a shootout between shooting with the eyepiece and smartphone versus a DSLR at prime focus thanks so much for watching again my name is Nico Carver my website is at nebulaphotos.

Hydroponics At Home – DIY Hydroponics System

Hydroponics At Home – DIY Hydroponics System cool right click the link in the description for pricing ratings and reviews hello I’m Wayne with modular hydro welcome back today I’m very excited we’re going to introduce two new systems that have been in the making for a very very long time and let me explain the difference between the two this one is our Eco flow cube it is a 12 quart grow cube with a 12 quart reservoir now this you can grow the largest plants and you can grow a 4 to 6 foot plant very comfortably in this system the second one is a smaller version of Eco flow cube and that’s called the Eco flow cube countertop very very small footprint but you can still grow a three-foot plant in this system quite comfortably not only are we going to talk about how these systems work we’re going to actually show you how to put one together how quick and easy it is it’s one of the fastest simplest hydroponic systems on the market today so we’re going to go ahead and actually put one of these together you have basically two main parts you have your your grow cube and you have a reservoir which is going to hold your water and your nutrients and we’re going to first go ahead and take our pump manifold and we’re going to snap in our 90 degree angle feeder tube and our direct top feed rig snap that in also that’s it you’re done with this now what we’re going to do is we’re going to go ahead and we’re gonna feed the ring through the pre-drilled holes and then we’re going to connect that to our pump but before we do that we also want to talk about another technology we have and this is optional with both systems and that’s our air injection technology you can order air injection technology with any of our systems what it does is a supercharges your reservoir with a lot of oxygen so the air and the oxygen comes directly to the reservoir so we’re go ahead and show me how to install that for those of you that do order that the holes are already pre-done all you do is simply plug them in drive your tubing through take your air injection ring connect that on okay then you’re going to drop this down into your reservoir now from this point you want to install your pump so all you simply do is take your pump connect it to your tubing here and place that on the bottom of the reservoir okay that’s it your system is basically put together at this point you’re done that’s just two parts that you had to connect up now at this point we’re going to go ahead and we’re going to put in our grow media today we’re going to go ahead and use brisco’s in this system we have hydrogen type clay pellets already in the system but we’re actually showing you from scratch how to put your system together in here you would fill that about one-third of the way up and then go ahead and put your plant in there and then fill the remaining grow media around the plant but for simplicity reasons we’re just going to fill the rest of it with our thumbs okay at this point we’re ready to add our nutrients in the water so we just simply take our premix nutrients and water and remember before and any grow medium you ever use all these screens to grow media first now our nutrients in our water have already been checked for pH so we just simply fill the container and we’re going to win a little bit more detail on how the system actually works and what makes it so revolutionary in the industry and that only takes three quarts of water and you’re done now while the system is running what’d you think about this is what Ellis system is running at any given time you’re only using about a cup of water maybe a cup and a half at the most what it’s doing is it’s pulling the nutrients and the water from the reservoir it’s pouring down over the top so it’s direct feeding to the roots and it’s draining back into the reservoir immediately so you’re not using a large volume of water at this point we’re going to go ahead and we’re gonna plug it in and get it up and running now this will start to finish there’s only what two two-and-a-half minutes start to finish on this entire system that’s pretty phenomenal when you think about it so we plug the system in it is now actually up and running as you can see what’s happening is the water is pouring out and the pump is priming so it may take a minute or two until the pump is there’s a brand new pump might take a minute or two until that pump actually crimes and if it doesn’t just simply unplug plug it back in again and let all that air get out of the pump okay at this point as you can see there’s quite a bit of water coming out of these emitters now leave there’s four emitters that are around the container and we’re going to give you a close-up now of how this thing works now at this point we’re going to show you the inner workings and close-up of how the system works but remember we installed our air injection technology you just take your hose at this point connect it to your pump and turn your pump on that’s all you got to do now you have all that oxygenated air forced into the reservoir now what’s happening is the pump is pumping that super rich oxygen enriched air up into your drip ring your top feed ring and as you can see how that’s constantly pouring out remember you’re only using about a cup to a cup and a half of water and any given time and it’s going directly back into the reservoir now what else is unique we’re going to talk about there’s there’s two things that are very hard to do with most hydro systems one is checking your pH we’re going to do that right now we’re going to show you how simple that is watch this I didn’t have to remove a reservoir cover nothing check my pH and you’re done with that that’s done the other thing that is extremely hard in this industry with almost all hydroponic systems is how do we change the water in that reservoir we’re going to show you how to do that just simply take at this point and turn off your palm okay our pump is now off what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna take this direct top feed piece we’re gonna plug in our drain line we’re gonna put that into our reservoir what’s nice about this is you can be on the floor you can be on a table it doesn’t matter because it’s not gravity fed you’re just gonna place your tube into your reservoir bucket that your waste bucket and it could be any any bucket it doesn’t matter and plug your pump back in what’s happening now is the water is being pumped from your reservoir directly from here into your waste bucket as you can see this and it only takes about three three-and-a-half minutes so at this point just simply sit back and relax now about three or four minutes have passed we’ve actually drained our entire reservoir so we’re going to go ahead and take our drain to disconnect from our emitter that’s all you do is pull it off position you’re in it was straight back down and that’s it you completely drained your system let me go ahead and show you the water that just came out of this hydroponic system so that’s completely done take your waste water and dump it on a plant outside somewhere don’t throw it down the same for down the toilet take it outside and feed a plant with it okay now your system is completely drained there may be maybe 1⁄2 1⁄2 inch of water on the bottom of the reservoir that’s okay because now you’re going to go ahead and refill so all you simply do is pour your nutrient solution straight back into your container fill the system back up this is how easy this is and that’s it you’re done you can plug your system back in as soon as you do this you’re ready that’s it that that was the entire process we just went from building an entire new system drain this system checking the pH with absolutely no complications no outside fitting and smellin unsightly hoses everything is self-contained it literally it takes only 2 to 3 minutes to build the system when it arrives at your door and that’s it you’re ready to grow again and folks the way in the future truly is growing in cubes like this I’ll tell you why I’m going to show you what two cubes look like together ok very close- knit within a 1 and a half square foot area you can have four of these cubes drumming and as your plants grow you can just slide your kids apart that’s all you do so it is extremely versatile it truly is the way of the future is one thing I learned out of 32 years of growing this definitely is the way of the future it’s so simple and so easy to operate these systems maintenance wise it’s very minimal putting them together only takes a few minutes and I hope you enjoyed this video because we’re excited about this product this is going to be one of our fastest selling systems remember comes in the Eco flow cube countertop and the Eco flow cube for those people that want to grow extremely extremely tall plants again I’m Wayne don’t forget go to modular hydro calm for informative type videos such as this again thank you cool right click the lane .

Meet Daniel Hayden - SKA-Low System Engineer

So I’m the system engineer for SKA-Low and I work with project managers, domain specialists and various other people, to check at a high level that everything is going to fit together when integrated and effectively to check that everything will fit together and do what it is meant to do. I’m originally from South Africa, I was born in Johannesburg and when I was 18, 19 I left to go study in Cape Town and then I studied afterwards in Europe in a few different European universities To hear at some point that South Africa would or could be involved in one of the biggest astronomy projects ever attempted was obviously extremely exciting and that was the inroad for me.

Human Readable Time (5 kyu): Codewars (TDD in JavaScript)

Hi! Welcome to Codewars. In this series I’m going to solve TDD katas using JavaScript. If this is your first time here and you want to learn Frontend and JavaScript. Let’s solve today kata titled “Human Readable Time.” Write a function, which takes a non-negative integer (seconds) as input and returns the time in a human-readable format: hours, minutes, seconds. Hours, padded to 2 digits. Minutes are the same.
