I’m with Lockheed Martin, and I’m the Deep Space Exploration Mission Operations Program Manager which includes OSIRIS-REx, and our team is taking the latest navigation updates and building, testing, and reviewing the final product today that then tomorrow will be uplinked and commanded to the spacecraft to run through all the operations leading up to our touch and go actual sample collection. We’re going to be using natural feature tracking that’s been designed and built while we’re using imagery from our mapping at Bennu over the last two years to come into the Nightingale site.

X Marks the Spot: How to Successfully Sample an Asteroid
I’m Kenny Getzandanner, the Flight Dynamics Manager for the OSIRIS- REx mission from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. For the past two years, we’ve been looking very closely at Bennu learning as much as we can about our asteroid. And just as importantly, learning to operate and navigate the spacecraft in the unique small body environment, and now we’re finally ready to go for TAG. Tomorrow, the spacecraft will execute a series of three maneuvers which will take it out of its orbit and initiate a slow descent to the surface eventually ending up inside of Nightingale crater.

Hi I’m Dr. Lori Glaze, and I’m the Director of NASA’s Planetary Science Division As a planetary scientist, one of the most important things we try to understand is how our solar system formed and how it has evolved over time and asteroids are a really important part of telling that story their remnants and relics of that early formation of the solar system and so NASA has put together a small fleet of spacecraft that are flying to multiple different types of asteroids scattered throughout the solar system to tell us how to piece together that early story about the solar system formation.

Hi my name is Heather Enos, and I am the Deputy Principal Investigator of the OSIRIS-REx mission at the University of Arizona. So as we are exploring Bennu, we chose Bennu with the idea that it was a carbon-rich asteroid and that was really the material we wanted to be able to bring back to Earth for further analysis in our laboratories. Turns out we picked the right asteroid based on all of the characterization that we have done of the composition of the surface with our spectrometers and our camera systems.
